Product Design Engineer Job#12007
Company is the international leader in their HVAC specialty field that one might describe either as commercial or industrial HVAC products. Their cooling products use a ‘split system’ type with heat pump capabilities when requested by customers to provide heating. Their business is strong and they have tons of interesting and challenging design projects.
Prior HVAC product development and design experience with sheet metal and refrigeration cycle design is ideally but will strongly consider an engineer with development and design experience involving significant sheet metal (cabinetry) design.
This position could be described as approximately:
20% Once the contract has been won will deal directly with customers (not as a sales person) but in a consulting role to help customer and company personnel to finalize the design needed to meet requirements. Also will communicate with the int ernal team to communicate and define the true needs of the customer. 30-40% Actual design of the product including solid modeling work hands-on although may receive some help from designers when appropriate.
10% Prepare bill of materials and any change documentation. 10% Prepare and design tests to evaluate products to meet customer specs and evaluate the test results. 10% documentation for manuals. Such as installation and service information.
10-20% interface and provide support to manufacturing when needed. Such as, solve manufacturing design related issues and substitutions when an issue.
Work will be for projects from start to finish; that is from customer need to delivered HVAC units. Excellent company with large backlog of projects, good equipment to work with, a solid team of co workers and an excellent manager to work for who believes in letting engineers do their work and to provide assistance when needed.
Spartanburg, South Carolina is located in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The mild climate, with its four distinct seasons, provides fine weather for outdoor activities year-round. Great golfing in the area. The city of 40,000 – which is part of a metropolitan area of 250,000 - is conveniently situated at the junction of I-26 and I-85, making it easily accessible to both mountain and beach resorts. Spartanburg is known for its beauty, quality of life and friendly people. Within 3-4 hour drive of the beach and about 1.5-2 hours of Charlotte, NC.
SALARY: $60,000 to $75,000
REQUIREMENTS:
BS Engineering or BS technical degree.
3+ years design of mechanical design using solid modeling cad software.
Must have solid background in design of sheet metal parts including brackets, enclosures and packaging. Must have general knowledge (course work) in heat transfer and airflow.
Ideally experience in design of HVAC products.
Paste experience in sourcing and specifying components to vendors.
DFM knowledge and skills.
Testing ability.
Strongly prefer candidate from within 300 miles so relocation is minimum.
Must be US citizen, permanent resident or TN visa eligible.
