Job Description

Inspects materials and products such as sheet stock, machine shop parts, and metal castings for conformance to specifications, quality standards, dimensional accuracy, and customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs diversified operations on coordinate measuring equipment including true position and alignment.  Writes complex programs and has ability to use the scanning CMM.
  • Proficient with PC-DMIS software.
  • Analyzes and interprets blueprints and quality requirements to determine dimensions and tolerance specifications.
  • Performs layout inspections and assists in establishing part inspection procedures.
  • Verifies specified dimensions of product or material using a variety of standard inspection tools such as micrometers, indicators, and calipers.
  • Analyzes and rejects defective parts.  Identifies type of defect on part, container of parts, or inspection tag.  Confers with or refers critical inspection problems to Quality Supervisor for final determination.
  • Sets up dial bore and rail gages for production purposes.
  • Dimensionally inspects tooling and fixtures used in production and maintains inspection records in a calibration system.
  • Calibrates inspection tools to known standards.
  • Executes geometric tolerancing evaluations.
  • Performs source delegated responsibilities as required by customer specifications.
  • Assists in performing receiving inspection operations checking for conformance to specifications and blueprint requirements.
  • Examines material or product for surface defects such as cracks, pits, dents, burrs, nicks, and incomplete welds.
  • In coordination with the Maintenance Department, performs preventive maintenance on coordinate measuring and other inspection equipment.
  • Sets up work and instructs inspectors of lower classifications.
  • Works under minimal supervision.  Instructions and guidance provided on operating difficulties, new work, and variations.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of and conformity to Ace Precision Quality System Work Instruction requirements that govern inspection operations.
  • Maintains or exceeds production standards through organization and planning.
  • Follows and complies with safety rules, regulations, and work instructions.
  • Accurately completes all required documentation including Certificates of Compliance, Inspection Method Sheets, and First Article Reports.
  • Meets attendance policy requirements.
  • Contributes to team effort by assisting in areas as needed.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum six years related progressive experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • 5 years minimum CMM programming with PC-DMIS software experience.
  • Ability to interpret complicated drawings, specifications, and formulas, and demonstrate competence in the use of precision measuring instruments such as dial bore gages, OD and ID micrometers, indicators, and coordinate measuring equipment.  Requires understanding of statistical process control principles, geometric dimensioning, and tolerancing.
