Mechanical Engineer

Job   Summary:

Mechanical Engineers have broad responsibilities that cover many areas including new product development, sustaining engineering, and production support.   Mechanical Engineers may be assigned duties that focus on specific functional areas based on the needs of the company and the skills of the engineer. 

Duties and Responsibilities: (subject to change)

  •   Performs new product design under the direction of Senior Department members and Management. Responsible for aiding Senior Department members in the generation of specifications, performing design analysis, all design documentation, working with suppliers and the introduction of products into manufacturing. Designs will be both mechanical and electro-mechanical and may include fabricated sheet metal parts, formed and/or molded plastic parts, cast and/or extruded parts and/or other mechanisms and mechanical assemblies.
  • Develops three-dimensional mechanical design models on a Mechanical Computer Aided Engineering (MCAE) system under the direction of Senior Engineering personnel. Responsible for the creation and maintenance of necessary engineering documentation for release to production, including inspection drawings and assembly drawings.
  • Assists the Senior Engineering personnel in performing empirical testing to verify designs conform to specification.
  • Assists Senior Engineering personnel in reviewing, analyzing and initiating corrective action for mechanical component and/or assembly problems which may occur during the life of a product.
  • Participates in peer design reviews for new designs and products.
  • Reviews, analyzes and initiates corrective action for mechanical component and/or assembly problems, for all products.
  • Troubleshoots and debugs products in Production and/or Service.
  • Corrects errors in design drawings and inspection drawings.
  • Identifies inefficiencies in the production assembly and testing process and implements changes as needed.
  • Performs various tasks associated with Engineering Change Requests (ECRs).
  • Collaborates with design engineers in the creation and maintenance of necessary engineering documentation for production, including work instructions.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.
  • Job conditions may require occasional lifting and bending.
  • Works with vendors and purchasing to address part problems, obsolescence issues and cost reductions.

Skills:                

  Required:

  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings and inspection drawings.
  • Understands and demonstrates sound testing methodology.
  • Ability to isolate faults in complex systems.
  • Familiarity with GD&T.
  • Experience with CAD.
  • Experience with Pro/E.

Optional: 

  • Familiarity with GMP and/or ISO 9001/9002.
  • Familiarity with FDA regulations.

Education and/or Experience:   

BSME Degree or equivalent knowledge in the application of engineering principles, theories, concepts and techniques. With Engineering Degree, a minimum of 0 years experience is required, 1-5 years experience is desired.
