Engineering Technician IV (Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic)

Description: Performs repair, fabrication, modification, and installation of sheet metal parts, items, and assemblies.

This posting is for contract bid purposes.

Duties: • This position works from brief oral or written instructions, pictures, tentative drawings and rough sketches.
• Sheet metal mechanic work requires knowledge of the physical properties and working characteristics of sheet metal, knowledge of tools and equipment required in the sheet metal trade, and knowledge of shop mathematics and principles.
• Most items are complex and require the employee to coordinate the work of several skilled trades in completing specialized work segments.
• May be called upon to perform aviation welding.
• In most cases, works directly with the engineer or scientist to solve difficult technical problems as they develop
• Other Duties as Assigned
Qualifications: • High School Diploma or equivalent
• At least 12 years of relevant experience.
• Must be a US Citizen
• Must have or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance. The Secret Clearance process will include requesting a credit history.

• Physical Requirements:
A. Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.
B. Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands, working at heights with fall protection devices.
C. Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
D. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances.
E. May be required to read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
F. Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
G. Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
H. Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
I. May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
